The following entry is a little insight, into the architectural commonality, among some of the largest terminals, being constructed in Nigeria today. The contractors, for these projects are Chinese powerhouses CCECC (China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation). These airports were expected to be delivered in 2014 and 2015, however the 'Nigerian factor', may push deadlines to 2016, or even 2017.

Terminal 2 - Murtala Muhammed International Terminal
Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Terminal is currently under construction and is a 40,000m2 terminal, making it the largest airport terminal under construction in Nigeria, along with the new terminal in Abuja. The new terminal has two wings. The main building and the secondary building, which will accommodate gates and other functions. Terminal 2 will be directly connected to the existing terminal, via an enclosed bridge.
Ultimately, the new terminal and the existing MMIA terminal, will have a total processing capacity of 12 million Pax, upon completion. The terminal is being constructed by CCECC (China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation). The rest of the design/contractor team are Nigerian firms: Arcaid Consultants, Fermak Associates, CDP Partnership and Mechelec Consultants.
This terminal, shares the greatest architectural similarity, with the new terminal, being constructed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, and this is an observation that we have previously shed light on.

Enugu International Terminal
The Enugu International terminal is a 25,000-28,000m2 terminal, also being constructed by CCECC. The terminal was expected to be delivered, before the end of 2015, but it is not clear if the deadline is being met. The above rendering depicts the similarity in concept, with Terminal 2 of the MMIA. It features he same basic rectilinear massing, with a curtain wall facade, shed roof and steel column supports.
Bayelsa International Airport Terminal
The Bayelsa International Airport Terminal building, is the smallest of the six terminals, being constructed by CCECC, with an approximate GFA of 15,000m2. Once again, this terminal employs the same basic concept as most of the terminals, being built or renovated in Nigeria of late. The terminal is under construction and should be delivered by next year, if the construction schedule is efficient.
Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal
In the news this week for all the wrong reasons. It should be noted however, that the current plans for the airport, are to transition it from the makeshift arrangement of present, to the 27,000-28,000m2 structure, depicted above. This is the finished product, for all those of you, who have pondered the fate of the airport. It will be a three floor terminal, with a similar front and rear elevation. It will also, feature assorted composite panels, which will give the terminal, a little depth. The terminal is anticipated to handle 5 million Pax per annum. Construction is ongoing, by CCECC, although this has not been mentioned, by its vocal critics.
