There are 5 new CCECC Terminals being constructed as part of the Aerotropolis City Concept. This concept will facilitate the construction of new terminals, transit terminals, hotels, parking facilities and much more. The current projects are:
In total the new terminals Under Construction have a total Gross Floor Area of 164,000 sqm.
- Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport - KAN (New CCECC Terminal - 28,000sqm)
- Akanu Ibiam International Airport - ENU (New CCECC Terminal - 28,000sqm)
- Port Harcourt International Airport - PHC (New CCECC Terminal - 28,000sqm)
- Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport - ABV (New CCECC Terminal - 40,000sqm)
- Murtala Muhammed International Airport - LOS (New CCECC Terminal - 40,000sqm)

Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport - KAN (New CCECC Terminal - 28,000sqm)
Blackborderbuild are proud to present the first rendering of the Mallam Aminu Kano International (New Terminal) that has been released online. In keeping with other Airport Constructions of late, a butterfly roofing style is chosen, which is upheld by large span steel trusses. Additionally there is an aluminium plated glass curtain wall for the front facade. The rest of the Terminal consists of reinforced concrete, with what appears to be composite panels.
The Airport appears to have three levels and is quite similar to the Akanu Ibiam Airport Terminal, being built in Enugu. The building has a height of 23.55 metres and therefore it will be quite imposing. It will be interesting to know how the terminal performs thermally. Written by T.Adeniyi |
Blackborderbuild did a quick analysis of the passive qualities of the Airport above. Assuming that the new terminal is oriented North/South like the existing terminal, then the large glazing on the front facade should not be too much of a problem as thermal gains in the Equator is minimal on the North/South faces. Most thermal gains are on the East & West faces. Additionally the prevailing winds in Kano, come from the North East and South West, which means that the windows on the sides of the building (If operable) can offer some passive cooling for the offices on the wings. Of course with a commercial building of this magnitude, passive solutions can only go so far, so HVAC systems will have to offset the rest of the thermal gains anyway.

Akanu Ibiam International Airport - ENU (New CCECC Terminal - 28,000sqm)
As we mentioned in our previous Aviation Entry, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport is a new international terminal being built by CCECC. The terminal will cost N11.6 Billion and it is expected that the terminal will be completed before the end of 2015. Shown above is a recent image of the construction and a physical model.
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport - ABV (New CCECC Terminal - 40,000sqm)
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport's new CCECC terminal is progressing steadily and appears to be matching the pace of the Murtala Muhammed New Terminal, stride for stride. It has a similar design to the MMIA New Terminal and has the same Gross Floor Area (GFA) as well.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport - LOS (New CCECC Terminal - 40,000sqm)
BBB are happy to bring to our readers a close up shot of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport new CCECC terminal under construction. The main contractors are CCECC (China), but the rest of the construction team all appear to be Nigerian Firms. These include Arcaid Consultants, Fermak Associates, CDP Partnership and Mechelec Consultants. As with the Nnamdi Azikiwe New Terminal project, this is a 40,000 sqm terminal. The terminal is being built near the East Wing of the existing International Terminal (Where the old Carpark was located). Other terminals will be built on the East & West Wings in the future, as well as hotel and parking facilities. This all forms part of the Lagos Aerotropolis vision.
