At 11,000 sqm, Abia mall just makes the cut and is within the top 15 of Nigerian shopping centres (completed or under construction). The anchor tenant is Shoprite, as with almost every major shopping centre in Nigeria's retail pipeline. The primary stakeholder is the Abia Mall Retail Company (an indigenous entity). The uncomplicated design is the work of South African architects Dakota Design, who have retail experience across a number of Sub-Saharan African countries. The primary contractor is New Technics Construction Company, others involved are: Morgan Omonitan & Abe (Structural consultants) and Mamique Associates (Quantity surveyors).
Abia Mall Retail Company are delivering 85% of the equity, while the Abia State Government are footing the rest of the bill. It is expected that the development, will bring 500 direct jobs and 10 times as many indirect jobs.
