As we noted in our previous blog entry, the Abuja - Kaduna Railway is drawing to a close. December is essentially the deadline as things stand and operations should commence in February 2015. Over 300 million USD worth of Chinese construction machinery, equipment, building supplies and rollingstock were acquired in the development of the Standard Gauge rail line. The project has a design speed of 150 km/hr and will allow passengers to travel between Abuja and Kaduna in just about an hour.
The Abuja - Kaduna railway forms part of the larger Lagos - Kano Standard Gauge project, which is a contract to the tune of $8.3 Billion. The Abuja - Kaduna project itself is an $850 million project and required the development of 9 stations along its route. The two main stations are the Idu Station and the Kaduna Terminal (shown in the Map below).
