The following update above, shows the current stage of development. Pile casing works are ongoing and the project is still in the initial stages of development. | The Ozumba Mbadiwe axis is where it is all happening. Civic Centre & Radisson have been there for quite some time, but are to be joined by the ongoing developments of: Wings Towers near Walter Carrington, Civic Centre Towers (adjacent to the Civic Centre), the Marriott Lagos on the opposite side of the Civic Centre and the Twin Towers development to the east of that development. Banking mogul Jim Ovia has a stake in all these developments, with the exception of Wings Towers. This is also a Cappa & D'Alberto playground. The veteran construction company, are confirmed to be building both the Civic Centre Towers and the Twin Towers development. It is not apparent if they will also be involved in the Marriot Hotel job site. Marriott Hotels are only bringing about 200 rooms to Ozumba Mbadiwe, Lagos. However it should be noted that, they have other interests in Nigeria, such as the prospective Marriott, Ikeja. Specification: Floors: 10 Floors Rooms: 200 Beds Investor: Jim Ovia (Quantum Capital) Grade: 5 Star Architects: G1 Architecture Site Area: 5300 sqm Amenities: Ball room, meeting facilities, infinity pool, spa, health club, executive lounge and specialty restaurant Marriott Hotel, Lagos is an interesting addition to this site. The appropriate use of scale at the 'communal spaces' both at the rear and street frontage is admirable. The building is a duality of expressiveness and privacy. If blackborderbuild hold any reservations, for the development, well it is simply that "In a prime waterfront location....it could have had more". 5300 sqm of prime waterfront land, this should have been at least a 20 floor mixed-use development and as a matter of fact, the initial Marriott proposal, did fit that description, although sited at Okunde Water front instead. The location map (above) highlights the Jim Ovia Empire that stretches along this axis. Jim Ovia has a 9% stake in Zenith Bank; the largest by any single investor. (And Blackborderbuild have used the brand name to represent his investments). |
