Tunji has always been a strong advocate for sustainable design and his proposal "The G Tower" was dubbed in 2009 by the BBC as "Lagos's first sustainable skyscraper". That project has not come to fruition, however with the Maybury Towers in Banana Island, some of those ideas live on. The Maybury towers is a 15 floor residential development, with 42 apartments and 4 double volume penthouses. The promise is to develop luxury apartments that will offer desirable views, open plan format interiors and terraces. The finishes of the development will permit adequate natural lighting. Rainwater will possibly be harvested, as well as passive ventilation systems. Other outcomes include aquaponics, health spas, floating farms, breathing walls and gardens. It is not certain, how many of these strategies will be realized, but what we can be sure of is that, regardless of the eventual conclusion - as with all Tunji Abdul creations, it will stand out from the rest. It is anticipated that the development will be completed by 2016. |
