London-based golf design firm Thomson Perrett & Lobb and South African based Bouman Golf are taking the Niger Delta by storm. They are consultants and contractors respectively in the 18 hole course in Calabar (advanced stage) and they recently commenced construction in the Garden City Golf Estate in Port Harcourt. This will be the second standard course in the Garden City; the Port Harcourt Golf Club being the other. Arup will be delivering the services and infrastructure and nothing is being left amiss, as the list of international grade courses in Nigeria begins to swells. Garden City is more than a golf course and is also an housing estate. It is being developed by Lagos based ARM Properties. As with the Calabar course, much of the natural terrain and vegetation is retained, which has the triple benefit of contextual grounding, carving a distinct identity and cost saving, due to decreased excavation works. Construction images of the Garden City Golf Estate are shown below. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Written by T.Adeniyi for BBB |
