The Nigerian Government are not simply building new Standard Gauge lines, but they also rehabilitated existing Narrow Gauge lines. The Lagos - Kano Narrow Gauge was rehabilitated by Eser West Africa of Turkey. This line is in keeping with the flurry of rehabilitation and expansion works of the current administration. The first major commissioning was of course, the resumption of the Lagos-Kano line in December 2012.
The Port Harcourt - Enugu Service, continues onward to Makurdi, in Benue State - Central Nigeria and the total length of the line is 463 Kilometres. There are also plans to create an additional line that will transport people from Port Harcourt - Enugu - Makurdi - Kaduna. The recently commissioned PHC - Enugu line was partly funded by the Sure-P (Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme) Intervention Fund.
