There is a lot of panic and reservation about the delivery of this particular project. However it should be reiterated that this is a 40 month project and major construction was only scheduled to begin within the last 3 months. There are inaccurate reports all over the internet referring to long delays and that the project has been ongoing for 2 years or so. The reality is major works were never scheduled to begin before November 2014. This project has a 40 month lifespan and the plan is for Julius Berger to complete the project in March 2018. Funding has been released for the project, N10 Billion Naira to be exact and the Federal government have complete confidence in Julius Berger, who also recently delivered the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
Prior to this phase of construction, what Julius Berger had embarked upon is some access way works and preliminary pile testing. As we can see from these images from January 2015, Julius Berger have now commenced the process of embedding pile casing foundation works. Following the placement of the pile cases, the drill will then be cleaned, filled with the reinforcement rebar cage and the concrete will finally be inserted.
This project has quite a large scope and no such project has been completed in Nigeria in a very long time. As we mentioned in our previous blog entries, this project is more than just a bridge crossing. There are new access routes, as well as modern facilities that will accompany the structure.
