Construction of the road commenced in 2006 and much progress has been made since then. The road features an impressive 41 bridges and 1000 culverts. The project is being funded through various channels such as the African Development Bank (ADB) and Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (Sure-P). 38 of the 42 bridges and 921 of the 1,000 culverts have been built. The bridges range from 15 metres to 850 metres in length.
Blackborderbuild are pleased to present the following construction images from the Federal Ministry of Information in conjuction with Sure-P. The images show the ongoing works at the East-West Road corridor. The East-West road is a 413 kilometre and is the largest of the 17 Niger Delta Ministry road projects. The road spans four states, from Warri in Delta State to Oron community in Akwa Ibom State.

2003 - Construction Flashback
Video from 2003 (Olusegun Obasanjo Administration); then the project was awarded to RCC and Shikun & Binui of Israel and was a 99 km highway project, with a $400 million contract. When the project was inherited from the Olusegun Obasanjo administration in 2006, construction was at 10%. Today the project has a scope of over 400 kilometres and has has attained roughly 80% completion.
