Calabar Specialist Hospital - December 2014 Construction Update
Calabar Specialist Hospital - January/February 2015 Construction Update
The Calabar Specialist Hospital is a 105 bed facility being built in Cross River State. It is part of the Summit Hills Master-Plan Project. Out of the total 105 beds, 80 will be reserved for public patients, 20 will serve private patients (VIP Treatment) and 5 will be designated as Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The project has a total capital cost of $40 Million and is being financed by the Cross River State Government.
The hospital will offer basic services such as Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology & Urology, as well as advanced surgeries such as Neurosurgery, Advanced Ophthalmology, Advanced ENT (Otorhinolaryngology) and Advanced Orthopedics. There will also be Obstetrics, Gynecology, Radiology, Pediatrics and laboratory services,.
As seen in the images above, construction work has reached an intermediate stage. The structural envelopes are still being finalized and as is customary in hospital construction, the final stage will be the adaptation of hospital installations and fittings, which is usually more tasking than basic residential and commercial fitouts.
What is interesting about this building is the decentralized approach, with about 10 identical but separate structures, connected by a circulatory spiral. The hospital should be delivered sometime this year. The original target date was May 2015.
