Construction Update (Images) of the Manufacturing Plant in Lagos State
Procter & Gamble, the well established American multinational consumer goods company are making significant headway in their Lagos facility. It should be noted that it was only as recently as March of this year that they commissioned their $300 million Agbara (Ogun State) facility. The Agbara Plant is almost seven times the size of the ongoing project in Lagos State, which is a 60,000-65,000 sqm project. However the Lagos Babycare Facility will be the first industrial facility in Nigeria to be LEED accredited. LEED measures green sustainable outcomes in buildings, during the design, construction, operation and maintenance phases.
The Lagos Babycare facility is being constructed in a greenfield 50 hectare site and was designed by BHDP Architecture. The project managers and engieers are ARUP. Julius Berger are the contractors and Scope Butler Building manufactured the steel frame components. The facility will not only be Nigeria's first LEED certified project of this kind, it will also be Procter & Gamble's first LEED certified project in the African continent.. This project is being built by P&G to effectively localize production within the Lagos State market.
Phase II of the project will see an additional 22,000 sqm facility, which will serve as an on-site distribution center. Nigeria is gradually witnessing increased investment in manufacturing, assemblage and harnessing of industrial products and the Procter & Gamble Babycare facility is just one of many more that are in the pipeline.
