CCECC are building a new international terminal for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport. The terminal will cost N11.6 Billion. It is expected that the terminal will be delivered by the end of 2015. The facility will boast of a total of 28,000 sqm GFA. The new terminals in Kano and Port Harcourt will also be built to the same size.

The Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi was recently commissioned in November 2014. The airport was built at a total cost of N7.8 billion. The green glass facade of the airport terminal is a distinct appearance that will distinguish it from other facilities in the country, however the inclined roof of the airport leaves a lot to be desired.

Blackborderbuild have written extensively about the ongoing expansion of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport and the following image is simply another perspective or vantage of the ongoing construction work. This is not the latest imagery and the picture above is from October 2014, however we are reminded that work at the facility is at an advanced stage and the project should conclude late 2015 or early 2016 at the latest.

Black Border Build are bringing you two recent updates of ongoing work in Ikeja. The first is the Execujet Terminal Expansion, which builds on the existing Execujet FPO (One of the best equipped of such facilities in West Africa). The second update comes from Murtala Muhammed International Airport's new terminal; being constructed by CCECC. (See the previous Blog Entry, where the Specifications are outlined). Updates are courtesy of Delondiny.

New Port Harcourt Terminal Under Construction

The Port Harcourt International Airport, in line with the Aerotropolis Vision. That vision also includes the new CCECC terminals being built in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu and Kano. The Nnamdi Azikiwe Terminal, was covered in this blog entry and the Murtala Muhammed Terminal, was covered in this entry.

The Port Harcourt International Airport, being built by CCECC, the Chinese construction heavyweights, is a 28,000 sqm facility that has work ongoing on three levels concurrently. Aside from the terminal structure, a Dry Cargo building and Apron are also part of the scheme. CCECC took to the site in September 2013 and the following images below, are from August 2014, a year of work. The work, has not been unhindered however, with rainfall and some technical hitches slowing down the pace. The time frame for the project is 24 months, so the project should be completed in 2015 or early 2016 at the latest.

Aerotropolis: Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (Construction Update)

Rendering of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Terminal
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal currently being built by CCECC (The second largest construction firm, operating in Nigeria), is a 3 Million PAX project. The development was spearheaded during the tenure of deposed Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah. The development has a GFA (Gross Floor Area) of 40,000 sqm. The new terminal being built by CCECC in Lagos, also has a GFA of 40,000 sqm. Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt's new terminals, also being built by CCECC will each boast of 28,000 sqm.

There has been a lot of speculation about the design appearances of the CCECC terminals, but as Blackborderbuild had theorized, the design of the new CCECC terminals in Lagos and Abuja are conforming to the models shown in the Aerotropolis animations. As can be seen in the image above, the design is more or less along the lines of many of the new terminals being developed across the country, albeit at a grander scale. The design, will not be winning any international design awards, but it is more modern than most Nigerian terminals, if that is any consolation.

The design also shows new parking facilities (Multistory) and aero-bridges to facilitate movement. Simply from the visuals that we have here, the new terminal seems comparable in size to the existing terminal. CCECC plan to conclude the new Nnamdi Azikiwe Terminal by 2016, as with their other major terminals.

The Murtala Mohammed Airport Terminal under construction, as shown in the late August Update above, is being built by reputable Chinese firm CCECC. If Plans for the Aerotropolis persist, then this terminal that will add a much needed 8 million PAX, will not be the end of works at MMIA. Another terminal on the West flank will also be built, as well as other transit terminals and facilities. The terminal, which is under construction at present, is being built on the East flank, in close proximity to the existing terminal's D Wing, i.e. where the old car park was situated.
