The Abuja Light Rail Phase One (50% Completed)

The image at the left was taken by Joe Ombuor and shows the track work of the Airport Line (Lot 3 Segment). The image in the centre is a station that we have not been able to identify, but it is possibly the Idu Station (Which is a transfer Station and would explain why three tracks can be seen). The Image to the far right shows a CCECC Test/Maintenance vehicle, with a max design speed of 100 km/hr (Photo credited to: Adam Smith International).

On the 24th of September 2014, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Lot 1B Segment was signed. It is a 31km segment and will cost a total of $792 Million. Lots 1A and Lot 3 are the segments that are currently under construction and have a total length of 45.2km. Lots 1A and Lot 3 are Phase One of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit project and are expected to be completed by October 2015, according to Managing Director of CCECC, Cao Baogong. The video shown below, shows the recent inspection of the phase one progress.

Millennium Tower (May 2014 - Captivating Shots)

The following update is a little dated, but the photography was worth the entry. All credit goes to Antonio Rizza for capturing the images.

For more information on the Millennium Tower, have a look at our previous write up. The Millennium Tower, has been ongoing for quite some time, but that takes nothing away from the quality project, that it was designed to be.
The development is being carried out by Italian firm Salini.

Eko Energy Estate (Location Plan)
Eko Energy Estate (Location Plan)

The Eko Energy Estate is a 40 hectare development, being built at the extreme North of Eko Atlantic City, bordering Victoria Island.  The developers are Orlean Invest (Who are behind a number of critical estates for the Oil/Gas sector such as the Onne Estate. The services and providers will be provided by Orlean Invest partners; Intel Services. The architects are Romanian designers; ART Forum. They envision that this will be a model project, from which the waters can be tested.

Eko Energy Estate is easily accessible, due to its close proximity to both the Channel Entrance of Lagos Harbour and the Eko Atlantic City waterfront. The development will include residential tower blocks, residential amenities, community centres and transit services.

Work is already underway and this is one of the first projects being implemented in the EAC.

Aerotropolis: Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (Construction Update)

Rendering of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Terminal
Rendering of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Terminal
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal currently being built by CCECC (The second largest construction firm, operating in Nigeria), is a 3 Million PAX project. The development was spearheaded during the tenure of deposed Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah. The development has a GFA (Gross Floor Area) of 40,000 sqm. The new terminal being built by CCECC in Lagos, also has a GFA of 40,000 sqm. Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt's new terminals, also being built by CCECC will each boast of 28,000 sqm.

There has been a lot of speculation about the design appearances of the CCECC terminals, but as Blackborderbuild had theorized, the design of the new CCECC terminals in Lagos and Abuja are conforming to the models shown in the Aerotropolis animations. As can be seen in the image above, the design is more or less along the lines of many of the new terminals being developed across the country, albeit at a grander scale. The design, will not be winning any international design awards, but it is more modern than most Nigerian terminals, if that is any consolation.

The design also shows new parking facilities (Multistory) and aero-bridges to facilitate movement. Simply from the visuals that we have here, the new terminal seems comparable in size to the existing terminal. CCECC plan to conclude the new Nnamdi Azikiwe Terminal by 2016, as with their other major terminals.
