Ongoing construction of the Onitsha Mall, which will be Anambra's Largest Mall upon completion. Onitsha Mall is a 12,100 sqm mall that is being bankrolled by the Nigerian group (African Capital Alliance), who have an 85% equity stake. The Anambra State Government will finance the rest, while Diamond Bank will manage the debt portfolio. As with most malls in Nigeria, the financiers are Nigerian and the anchor tenants are South African. Shoprite is no different, with Mr Price & Shoprite confirmed as Anchors. Upon completion the mall would be the second largest retail centre in the South East region of Nigeria. It will be managed by property management kings, Broll Nigeria. The mall is about 70% complete and will be adequately serviced by dualized access roads. The mall also has a capacity for 500 vehicles. Read more about the Nigerian Retail Pipeline here.

Abuja - Centenary City (A masterstroke by Eagle Hills - Abu Dhabi)
You saw it first @ Blackborderbuild.com These are new renderings recently published and at a quick glance (of the urban design outcomes), the Centenary City (Situated in Abuja) is certainly the inland equivalent of Eko Atlantic City (EAC).
The development in Abuja is even larger in area than Eko Atlantic City, with a site area of 12.6 square kilometres. With that said however, Eko Atlantic City does have a higher urban density, owing to its nature as financial centre, first and foremost. Centenary City conversely may be described as principally a lifestyle city. Centenary City has a more natural setting and will appear to be less 'manufactured' than EAC. Centenary City will still have its own share of commerce, with a dedicated financial centre, a museum, cultural centre, business/technology parks that complement its sprawling residential estates.
Interestingly, the tallest building in Centenary city may be taller than the tallest that Eko Atlantic City will have to offer. While research and news emerging from Lagos suggests that the tallest structures in EAC may be around the 50 floor mark, the Africa Square Tower in Centenary City will be 76 floors, which would make it taller than Africa's current tallest building - the Carlton Centre. The Africa Square Tower (the imposing structure in the images above & below) will boast of 30 floors of luxury apartments and 46 floors of premium office space. Centenary city will feature a host of other centres such as a F1 racing circuit, golf estates and theme parks, just to name a few.
Written by T.Adeniyi for BBB On the 20th of November 2014, the contract for the 1385 km Coastal Rail project was signed by Nigerian officials and members of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). As we mentioned in our previous piece on the coastal railway, the value of the project was initially put at $13.1 billion, however following further design development, that amount has been adjusted to reflect the more detailed analysis that has been ongoing in the past months. The new amount is $ 11.97 billion, which still puts the project firmly in place as China's single largest investment abroad. The project cuts through 10 coastal states of Nigeria and has a total of 22 stations. The design speed is 120 km/hr and the single track mileage distance is 1385 km. JULY-NOVEMBER 2014 UPDATES (LATEST) Written by T.Adeniyi - November 2014 The Abuja-Kaduna Railway draws to a close and it is only fitting that we provide some updates regarding Nigeria's second ongoing Inter-City Standard Gauge project. This is a 186.5km railway project being constructed by CCECC to ferry passengers between Idu Station in the Nation's Capital and neighbouring Kaduna. The project can facilitate train movements at speeds of up to 150 km/hr. The railway features 26 rail bridges, five box bridges and 30 overpass bridges. The project was financed with $500 million from the China Exim Bank. Construction is expected to be completed next month in December. A CCECC celebratory ceremony is planned for the 29th of November. "The Marina District of Eko Atlantic will be adjacent to the Harbour Lights district. It will have views of the ocean from one side and of the entrance to the port of Lagos on the other. This area will extend over 1,154,500 square metres and its water surface will be 76,677 square metres. The planned building plots within the Marina District will be 5,500 square metres and the average building height will be 70 metres."Source The Marina District Block I features Residential Tower Blocks with a height of 113 metres. O.T.C.E Liban (Omnium Technique d'études de la Construction) are the Engineering consultants involved. The towers were designed by Loft Architects, which are a Turkish Firm. At 113 Metres, this will make the towers in Block I some of the tallest in Nigeria, although Eko Atlantic City will feature even taller buildings in other parts of the development. The following overview just highlights some of the ongoing projects in Ikoyi that have been completed or are still under construction over the last few years. 1) Grand Meridien Ikoyi - 15 Floors X 2 - Hospitality (This is has ongoing project that has stalled for various reasons, including changes in the design specs, among other challenges. It is situated near the Ikoyi Foreshore and according to Starwood Hotels, it is expected to open its doors in January 2017. 2) YF/Ibalex is a 15 Floor commercial development being built at Temple Road for the Ibalex Group. It was designed by Tabet Atelier D'Architecture (TAA), Lebanon. The project has topped out, but according to recent images from various sources - cladding is yet to commence. The Chelsea Hotel is a 10 floor hotel being built by Impacto Grupo for Chidol Properties (Subsidiary of Chelsea Group Limited). The project is dubbed a mixed development, which suggests that it will contain other functions (perhaps retail) in addition to the hospitality component. The owners are dubbing it a 5 star project. The hotel will have 176 rooms. |
